Webinar 1:

Backlash on gender equality: Serbia, Bulgaria, North Macedonia

Friday, 10 February 2023, 12-13.30 CET

On the occasion of 11 February – the International Day of Women and Girls in Science

About the webinar:

Serbia, Bulgaria and North Macedonia form the heart of the Balkans, geographically and historically. All three share the status of the post-socialist countries and in all of them the Orthodox Christianity defines what it means to be the proper Serbian, Bulgarian and Macedonian. The three countries had as well similar paths towards gender equality. Despite these many similarities, the researchers rarely meet to discuss. In our first GenPolSEE webinar, we aim to right this wrong, bringing three researchers to talk about recent anti-gender mobilizations in their respective countries. As it will turn out, we share more than we know. With this webinar we hope to shed light on this corner of Europe, which often gets less attention, and we also want to encourage more active cooperation and mutual learning.

This webinar is part of the Gender & Politics Research in South-East Europe Webinar Series, initiated by the GenPolSEE network, aiming at promoting research and researchers from the region.
